The goal of August Chronicles is to help people develop a sense of place by understanding the history around them. By slowing down and understanding the neighborhood and region around them, people can start to see the layers of history and how it connects to the modern day. The street names of an area can often tell someone about the area. The names could be important people that shaped the region or it could reflect the culture. Understanding where the “historical core” of an area can help someone understand the layout of the city. For example, by investigating the area around “First” street can often lead to an understanding of the cities origins and can be seen in the landscape. Downtown areas for example usually have a reason why they are there and are not random. Many times, there is a river or railroad that runs through a city’s downtown. After studying an area like this, the layout, structure, and historical layers of the city become intuitive. Now as people go for bike rides or walk around their city and region, a feeling of connection can start to develop. August Chronicles films is the guide to channel this sense of place and inner peace
