Larimer Street and Larimer County are commonplace names that many people in Denver and Northern Colorado come across every day. The man behind the name is William Larimer Jr, one of the founders of the city of Denver. He a businessman and speculator that lost it all in industrial Pennsylvania of 1854. He decided to head out west to attempt to remake his fortune. He started towns along the Missouri and Platte River in Nebraska. That didn\u2019t work out so he went to Fort Leavenworth and then to Rocky Mountains during the Gold Rush. This is when he would start the Denver City Town Company to pay off his debts from Pennsylvania. The sources for the film include an obscure Colorado Heritage Magazine (Summer 1996)<\/a> featuring William Larimer Jr. on the cover. This article gives a excellent overview of the man . There is also a book titled, \u201cReminiscence of General William Larimer and his son William H. H. Larimer\u201d published in 1918, by William H H. Larimer<\/a> the son of the founder of Denver.
